Hello friends! Thanks for all your kind comments on our new couch, aka Karl. We've had him for over a week now and love him even more than the day he was
born brought home.
The Karlstad sofa from Ikea comes with different leg options, but the basic option is a solid wood birch leg.
I just wasn't feeling that pale leg and decided Karl needed a tan. I have always wanted to try out wood stain and figured this was good as time as any, so I picked up a can of Varathane Wood Stain in Black Cherry at Home Depot.
I followed the directions carefully, brushing on a liberal layer of stain and then wiping it down with a lint-free cloth. The color turned out perfect, exactly as described on the can.
I'm always amazed at how these tiny changes can make a big impact. The couch suddenly looks more refined and more expensive with it's dark new legs.
And I also love how the color matches the other wood tones we have in the room.
Have you used wood stain before? What are small changes you have made in your home that have created a big impact?
